Sea Grape House

Eighty feet from the sea, with a "Sea Grape" bush just
off the Main Deck, the Sea Grape House is a separate
cottage with open beam ceilings and wood parquet
floors. The decor includes indirect lighting, artwork,
and live plants. Two of the five rooms are closed off
by wooden louvered "pocket doors" that slide into the
wall when not in use. The house is fully insulated and
has ceiling fans in every room. The large doors and
windows can be opened to the trade winds to keep it
cool and airy inside.
The Living room is equipped with a cable TV/VCR/DVD, a small library of
taped 3-star movies, a table and chairs, barstools, an uphostered chair,
sleeper sofa, and a sunset view of the popular surf break, Davidsons Point.

The FULL kitchen, separated from the
living room by a cedar bar, includes a
range, refrigerator with ice maker,
blender, coffeemaker, microwave,
dishwasher, pots, pans, dishes, and
flatware.
The tiled bathroom has a dressing area and separate
water closet with toilet and shower
(NO TUB) which opens onto a private enclosed deck
for hanging wet bathing suits to dry. Bath and Beach
Towels are supplied.
The entire house is raised on 12-foot piers. This provides a 180 degree
view for whale (in season), dolphin, or boat watching. It does require,
however, that guests be able to climb 17 steps. Small children could be in
danger of falling should they climb on the railing.
Below is covered parking and an extra deck. It features a shared washing
machine, utility sink, and an extra "Ohana" toilet. We use a solar drier
(clothesline). There are beach chairs, straw mats, an ice chest, and beach
toys. Guests may use any of these. In the yard is a barbeque grill and an
extra outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Free wireless Internet.

Our community of Kekaha on the sunny side of
Kauai is a small sugar plantation  residential
area at the foot of Waimea Canyon. We are
three miles from the Waimea River where
Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778.
Two miles to the east is Waimea Town. Salt
Pond is 9 miles, Poipu hotels about a 30 minute
drive, and it's 45 minutes to the airport. In the
cool  air up the inactive volcano behind us is
Kokee State Park with its Natural History
Museum, 40 miles of hiking trails, waterfalls,
endangered species of birds and plants
including some of the last endemic Hawaiian
rain forest, and views of the Waimea Canyon
and of the Na Pali Coast 4000 feet below
.
There are few tourists here, but there are restaurants, grocery stores,
gas stations, a post office, video rentals, and a library in Waimea.
Guests must not be spooked by empty beaches! We live in the
Ironwoods House next door. We won't invade your privacy, but we'd be
happy to answer any questions you may have.
