The "Ironwoods House," nestled among
Ironwoods Pines 150 feet from the sea, is also
a 700 square foot (+decks) cottage with open
beam ceilings and wood parquet floors. In fact,
it is identical in design to the Sea Grape House,
but oppositely oriented, like right and left hands.
The ocean view encompasses about 90
degrees, where the ocean fills a 180 degree
expanse in the Sea Grape. Also, instead of the
open deck below, there is a storage room. The
Ironwoods House is right next door to the Sea
Grape House.

Ole loves to play Hawaiian slack-key guitar. Eileen
loves to cook. We both love to lay around and be
lazy, so an important feature is our hammocks.
You're welcome to use them, but there is a lot to
see on Kauai! Beaches. Rain forests with
waterfalls. A high altitude swamp in a crater.
Farmer's Markets. Mount Waialeale. Hanalei Bay.
Princeville, Poipu, and Kukuiolono Golf Courses.
The Na Pali Coast. Etc, etc, etc! When will you find
the time to lay around in the hammock?
It is very dark in Kekaha. There are few lights, so star and meteor
watching is often superb. Want to watch a satellite pass overhead? Just
lie still on a deck chair looking up after sunset!
Below is covered parking. In the yard is an
extra, outdoor shower and barbeque grill.
Under the "Sea Grape House" is an open
deck which features a shared wash machine,
utility sink, and extra "Ohana" toilet. We use a
solar dryer (clothesline). There are beach
chairs, straw mats, an ice chest, and beach
toys. Wireless Internet access is free.
Our community of Kekaha on the sunny side of
Kauai is a small sugar plantation residential
area at the foot of Waimea Canyon. We are
three miles from the Waimea River, where
Captain Cook first landed in Hawaii in 1778.
Two miles to the east is Waimea Town. Salt
Pond is 9 miles, Poipu hotels are a 30 minute
drive, and it's 45 minutes to the airport.
In the cool air up the inactive volcano behind us is Kokee State Park with its
Natural History Museum, 40 miles of hiking trails, waterfalls, endangered
species of birds and plants, including some of the last endemic Hawaiian
Rain Forest, and views of the Waimea Canyon and of the Na Pali Coast
4,000 feet below.
There are few tourists here, but there are restaurants, grocery & liquor
stores, a post office, gas stations, video rentals, and a library in Waimea.
Having lived over 25 years in Hawaii, we can answer many questions you
may have, but after we greet you we will not invade your privacy.
Aloha,
Ole and Eileen

Directly across the street waves crash on huge boulders. A few feet to the
east is a dark sand beach stretching about two miles to Kikiaola Small Boat
Harbor. About 200 yards to the west begins a white sand beach featuring a
"Keiki" child's tidepool and extending 17 miles past a lifeguard stand to
Barking Sands and Polihale State Park at the western tip of the Na Pali
Coast (The End of the Road).
